Nature through the eyes of a coastal naturalist

As I explore British Columbia's rugged coast line I can't help but fall in love with it. I am lucky enough to work as a naturalist and guide all over the BC coast sharing and discovering the wild beauty with others. From March until the end of October I travel the coast spending time in some of the most remote areas including Haida Gwaii and The Great Bear Rainforest.

These pristine wilderness areas are currently threatened by the proposed Northern Gateway Pipeline development. Through photography I attempt to capture the awe inspiring beauty of our natural world so that others can see what an incredible coast we have, and understand why it is so important to protect it.

Black Bears are beautiful creatures, often overlooked for the iconic Spirit Bears. These bears, filmed in the Great Bear Rainforest on Gribbell Island, delighted us for hours as we watched them come and go, feeding on the salmon in the creek

Heading north on our way to Haida Gwaii in late May 2013, we came across about 200 Pacific White-sided Dolphins feeding in Johnstone Strait. Some of them took a break from their food to come play on the bow wave of the Island Odyssey.

On April 5th 2013, we watched Transient Orcas (5 T100s and T102) hunt and kill a Steller's Sealion just north of Active Pass in the Gulf Islands. It was an incredible thing to witness. The entire process took about 3 hours...that sealion did not give up easily.

Towards the end of last season I started playing with video settings on my camera. This is a compilation of video highlights from the 2012 season in the Great Bear Rainforest, Johnstone Strait and the Broughton Archipelago.
